Immunity to Magnetic Fields

Both media come in three primary functional formats to suit different needs. These include ROM (Read-Only Memory, pre-recorded commercially), R (Recordable, can be written to once), and RW (Rewritable, can be erased and rewritten multiple times).

They allow for instant playback navigation. Unlike older magnetic tape formats (like VHS or cassettes) that require manual rewinding, a laser can instantly skip to any specific track, chapter, or timecode on the disc.
